Tauranga-based magazine Healthy Options has suspended operations, but the publisher has vowed to publish again by the end of the year.
The monthly natural health magazine has been printed for 27 years. Managing director Janice-Ann Priest said the magazine was not closing, but "suspending operations until I can deal with the latest challenge that has affected us".
Eight staff are understood to have lost jobs.
"We will be retrenching and hopefully emerging again by the end of the year," Dr Priest said.
The magazine features health issues, food recipes, therapies, success stories, animal, organics and astrology as well as an organic, natural health, education and health communities directory.
Dr Priest said she had received calls of support from people all over New Zealand.
"Unfortunately printing 'healthy' media has its challenges and there are those who oppose what we do, but then freedom of the press ensures we do give people an option," she said.
Dr Priest's other publication, Rainbow News, has also been affected.
