The Western Bay of Plenty Council has made a land purchase it hopes will provide more recreational land.
The piece of foreshore land is at the end of Beach Rd, Katikati.
The 4730m2 property, opposite McMillan Reserve, will enable the addition of more reserve facilities including car parking and could be a future location for the Katikati Boat Club. It will also enable long term development of the area next to the Beach Road boat ramp.
Western Bay of Plenty Council strategic property manager Blaise Williams said it was extremely rare for a property of this nature and location to come on the market.
"This is a sound investment for council as it enables us to buy a strategic property on the harbour edge to add to our portfolio of reserves, particularly in light of the district's forecast growth and increased settlement in Katikati."
