Greerton Library is on the move.

Greerton Library will be closed for several days this month while the service is moved to a temporary location at 1334 Cameron Road - to make way for construction of a new library.

Greerton Library will be closed from 5pm Thursday 21 May and will re-open in its temporary location on Tuesday 2 June.

There will be no facility in Greerton to return items during the time the library is closed.

Books issued at Greerton Library before Friday 22 May will not be due back until after the temporary Greerton Library opens on 2 June.

Borrowed items can be returned to other libraries in the city, including the Mobile Library, if people wish to do so during the week the Greerton Library is closed.

The temporary Greerton Library at 1334 Cameron Road, between Greer's and Tauranga Hearing Association (close to the Cameron Road/Chadwick Rd roundabout), will offer similar services to the current library.

Library Customer Services Team Leader Joanna Thomas said the temporary library will operate until the new library is completed, which is currently expected to be April 2016.

"On behalf of the library staff, we thank our valued customers for their patience during the week we will be closed, and we'll see you soon at our new premises," she said.

For more information please call 577 7177, visit http://library.tauranga.govt.nz or go their Facebook page.

The current Greerton Library was built as a one-room community library in 1975 and refurbished in 1997.

Council approved $3.45 million funding for a 900m2 building - double the size of the present library - in its Annual Plan 2014/15.
