Fire fighters battled a scrub fire in Tauranga last night for more than two hours.
Two fire trucks and a water tanker from Greerton were called to hill side fire on Tomsett Rd in Omanawa at 3.50pm.
Fire service shift manager Dallas Ramsay said the fire stretched over a patch of land about 20m by 60m.
"The fire on the hill side was extinguished and left in the hands of the owner.
"I believe it was a controlled burn that got out of control."
