Tauranga City Councillors have agreed ratepayers will help foot the bill for a $5 million information centre for Mount Maunganui.
The council has this morning voted 9-1 for plans to build a new iconic information centre and i-Port to go ahead. Councillor Catherine Stewart was the only one to vote against the proposal.
Councillors voted ratepayers will pay $4m of the $5m, with $2m to come from commercial ratepayers and the same from residential ratepayers.

The tourism industry was expected to pay $1m of the bill, the cost of which was expected to transform a basic building into an iconic building.
