Bacon butties, hot drinks and Anzac biscuits were a welcome treat for the thousands who attended the Great Anzac Day Brunch at Tauranga Domain today.
A total of 160 people volunteers, some from service clubs and local schools helped out with the catering preparations and service during the Anzac Day Civic Memorial Service.
Seventy volunteers did the cooking while others helped set out the tables, and chairs, and it was the job of 20 dedicated volunteers to act as personal assistants to 30 of Tauranga's oldest veterans to ensure they were fed first and treated like VIPs.
The Great Anzac Day Brunch included 5000 bacon butties, thousands of Anzac biscuits and hot cups of coffee and tea which were supplied free.
One brunch attendee, David Walpole, 82, from Otumoetai, said he wanted to pay tribute to all the volunteers who helped make today extra special.
