The Tauranga SPCA is looking for grandparents and grandchildren who don't mind picking up a rake or shovel during their school holidays or retirement.
The SPCA needs the volunteers to help with some gardening at its grounds on Alach St, Greerton.
Tauranga Grey Power president Doug Wilson said the garden had become
a "bit wild" over the past few months.
"Today it is my plea as the president of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Grey Power for those ablebodied grandparents and their grandchildren to pick up their gardening tools, rakes, secateurs, spades, shovels and hoes and donate their time and energy to give the SPCA a much needed garden spruce-up," Mr Wilson said.
"Often people come to the SPCA to volunteer their time for the animals, which is great, but we really need people who can help in other areas." The SPCA also needed two volunteers who would continue to maintain the the garden.
Volunteers need to bring their own tools.
Anyone willing to donate time, whether it was just for one day or for a month, is encouraged to turn up at the SPCA at the end of Alach St at 9am one morning this week or to call Mr Wilson on (07) 571 2558.
