The cause of a fire which gutted a garage and its contents at a rural Te Puke property and damaged a 5.7m boat parked in front of it is being investigated.
Te Puke Fire Brigade deputy fire chief Dale Lindsay said the 111 call was made just after 1pm yesterday, and two fire crews from Te Puke plus a water tanker attended the blaze at a Te Matai Rd lifestyle block.
Mr Lindsay said the scene of the fire was about 8km out of the town.
"The garage was well involved when we arrived and we could hear little explosions going off from inside. We did manage to put out the boat fire fairly quickly, although there was some damage to the motor and the back of the boat."
Mr Lindsay said the steel-clad detached garage which was full of equipment used on the lifestyle block, including motorbikes, could not be saved.
