I can remember my first day at work as a reporter.
I was nervous and excited about being given the chance to interview people and write stories - and get my name on them.
That was a few years ago now but there are always student reporters on the cusp of becoming the next generation of journalists.
I have always supported them coming into our newsroom and think it's important we give them a chance to get a foot in door and put theory into practice.
We've had a few in the newsroom over the past week and you would have noticed some new names.
We've also had a young, student photographer, Trent Bruce, who goes to Tauranga Boys' College. He's been going out on jobs with our staff photographers and was given an important assignment this week - the Wednesday photo essay page.
Great effort, Trent. You can check out his pictures in Wednesday's Bay of Plenty Times.
