It might've been icy cold but I am sure you'll agree with me that the photo story on page A3 in today's Bay of Plenty Times is a real heart-warmer.
The Mount Maunganui College kids who braved the cold water at Omanu Beach yesterday in honour of their classmate Jed Roberts, who died of leukemia in April, demonstrates there are some super kids in our community.
It is hoped proceeds from tickets for the event would raise about $800 for the Tauranga branch of the Leukemia and Blood Foundation.
You might recall Jed's story as we've written about him before.
Jed's mum reckons the polar plunge would have been an event he would have enjoyed and she hopes it becomes an annual event.
So do I.
Cancer is something that touches all of us in some way and it's fantastic to see kids getting together like this to raise money for a support agency.
If you know of anyone doing an event to raise money in the Bay, let us know. Just email news@bayofplentytimes.co.nz or go to www.facebook.com/bayofplentytimes.
Also in today's paper, on page A14, we have the great story about how the Steamers beat Taranaki in their second pre-season game yesterday.
This will give the team a great boost as they prepare for the ITM Cup.
If you're a local rugby fan, make sure you get Monday's Bay of Plenty Times to read our new Bay rugby fan page. It takes fans behind the scenes with a feature of the week, player profile, fan of the week and a column from the Steamers.
We also have great giveaway prizes.
