I had the fortune to attend the Hamilton V8s at the weekend - and what a fantastic event.
Yes it rained and yes it was cold at times, but this didn't matter. In fact, on Saturday it made the racing more eventful, with plenty of spills and near misses.
Our seats gave a superb view. We saw the supercars roar down the straight over the chicane and into Turn 5, where so many drivers came close to losing it in the wet. They then sped off towards the ITM corner. A giant video screen gave coverage of the rest of the track.
It was great to see Shane van Gisbergen take the big race on Sunday after Rick Kelly dominated on Saturday.
The crowds, from what I saw, were well behaved.
Hamilton put a good show. Crowd numbers were down but I hope this doesn't stop them hosting the event next year.
It's a shame Tauranga's big event on Friday night had problems though.
As we report on page A3, 16,500 people crammed into Baypark Stadium to watch the Waikato Chiefs up against Canterbury Crusaders.
Complaints from fans since include stolen seats, food stalls running out of tomato sauce for chips and hotdogs to fears of riots due to a lack of exits.
It is crucial these complaints are seriously looked in case any lessons need to be learned.
Thankfully, the Bay and Waikato have entertaining events such as Super 15 rugby matches and supercars. It's important fans support them.
