There are some fantastic people in the Bay.
Yesterday's front-page story about devastated Tauranga boy James Thompson, whose bike was stolen from outside the pet store where he volunteers, received a big response from readers.
The theft had meant that James, a 12-year-old who has autism, has had to walk to go anywhere because his mother does not have a car.
When I first heard about this story, I vowed to use our influence as a media organisation to help him.
So, we asked the public if they could help.
We had about 30 emails, phone calls and messages offering a new or second-hand bike for James after yesterday's story featured in our newspaper, on this website and on Facebook.
Among them were David and Eileen Turnbull from Chadsport in Greerton, the first bike store to make an offer. They have given James a new red and black Turbo bike. David and Eileen deserve a huge pat on the back for their generosity.
And everyone else who kindly offered to help also deserves praise for showing true heart. Thanks to you all. You help make the Bay a great community.
