Working in newspapers we get to hear of many inspirational and heartwarming stories.
One such story is that of Tauranga's Kate Shapland.
One page A3 in the Bay of Plenty Times today, Jamie Morton speaks to Ms Shapland, who despite being left with a permanent disability after a car hit her when she was 12, completed a 5km run at the Half 4 Heart event yesterday. She was one of 500 participants in the event, which raises funds for the Heart Foundation.
Also on our Out & About page we have pictures from the annual antique fair hosted by the Rotary Club of Otumoetai.
This was another fundraising event, with proceeds going to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
Sadly, one event that was also to raise money for quake victims was cancelled due to the wet and windy weather.
The concert was part of the "10 days in Tauranga" initiative and was to have been attended by 50 Christchurch families visiting the Bay. It is a shame they missed out on this concert but they will no doubt have enjoyed their break in our beautiful region.
The organisers of the concert have said money from tickets sold and not refunded would still go to the earthquake fund - what a generous offer.
It is humbling to know we live in a community where in one weekend there are so many events raising money for those in need - well done Tauranga.
