Four Filthy Few gang associates who attacked a man and caused him to lose an eye in a home invasion have each been jailed for 10 years or more.
Tama Waitai, Takatu Ahomiro, Jay Beguely and Carl Tremayne were found guilty by jury on December 2 and were today sentencedin the Tauranga District Court.
The four men forced their way into a Whakamarama home in December 2013 and seriously assaulted the home owner, aged 50 at the time, and injured his son, then aged 31.
The father ended up losing one of his eyes and may yet lose his other.
His face was fractured in numerous places, including one of his cheek bones and his nose. The son received cuts to his face which needed stitches and chipped teeth.
Ahomiro, whom Judge Christopher Harding said had numerous previous convictions including 57 terms of imprisonment, was sentenced to 12 years in jail with a minimum non-parole period of eight years.
Beguely was sentenced to 10 years, six months imprisonment with a minimum five year, three month non-parole period and Waitai was given 10 years, nine months with a minimum five years, three months non-parole.
Tremayne was given 10 years in prison with a minimum five years non-parole and offered to sell a motorcycle, registered under his partner's name, worth $20,000 as reparation for the two victims.
