A four-vehicle nose-tail crash in Te Puke today in the driver of one vehicle beng taken to Tauranga Hospital for observation after suffering a minor injury.

Te Puke police Sergeant Mark Holmes said the collision occurred about 12.15am on State Highway 2 near the intersection with Te Matai Rd.

"I think people were caught out by the sudden downpour of rain and it's a good reminder for motorists to ensure they increase their following distances, particular in the wet," he said.
