A former NZ Warriors player is joining forces with a Tauranga couple to help create a healthier Tauranga community.

Former Warrior Henry Fa'afili, now a Tauranga-based strength and conditioning coach, is taking on a guest trainer role for tomorrow's Fit Fam training session run by Jax Pevreal and Klynt Te Wheoro-Lucas.

The aim of Fit Fam was to get more people active and improve health, and the results for those who attended was payment enough for the couple.

Mr Fa'afili said he was inspired to help after hearing about the pair's efforts to motivate people who may not have otherwise had the drive to improve their health and fitness.

"I saw the article in the paper [Bay of Plenty Times, October 4] and on social media and I just thought 'wow that's awesome for Jax and her partner to do that for the community for free', it's fantastic," Mr Fa'afili said.

He said their efforts were encouraging more people to lead a healthier lifestyle and providing an outlet for everyone in Tauranga, especially those who could not afford a gym membership.

"If I can help out in any way I'm more than happy to," he said.

Mr Fa'afili said tomorrow's training would be fun but challenging and would be about starting together and finishing together.

"If it doesn't challenge you it doesn't change you."

He didn't want to put a limit on the number of people who could attend as he could "cater for the numbers".

Miss Pevreal said she and Mr Te Wheoro Lucas, who are using their shared passion for fitness to steer people into healthier lifestyles, were excited about Sunday's session.

She was blown away by Mr Fa'afili's support and said the couple was open to receiving as much support as they could.

Since the Bay of Plenty Times article came out Miss Pevreal said about 15 new faces had attended the training sessions but they had been inundated with Facebook messages from people keen to join in.

To join Sunday's training, message Miss Pevreal and Mr Te Wheoro-Lucas at their Facebook page FIT FAM for LIFE.
