Fleming thrilled to be new Mainstreet head

Mount Mainstreet has appointed a new manager: Ingrid Fleming.

The Mount Maunganui resident said she was thrilled to be appointed to the role.

"I feel very privileged to be surrounded by a great bunch of people passionate about their businesses and their unique village," she said.

Mrs Fleming said she had a strong connection to Mount Maunganui. Her parents lived on Victoria Rd, parallel to Mount Mainstreet, for 34 years.

"Having lived in the Mount for the past six years, I've had huge interest in what's been going on in Mount Mainstreet. There's been some great work done here," she said. "As far as I'm concerned, everyone needs to know about this amazing place and what it has to offer."

Mount Mainstreet board chairwoman Jane Debenham said Mrs Fleming had developed a successful event business in Taupo.

"In Taupo she also developed and maintained a four-and-a-half star accommodation lodge."

Mrs Debenham said she looked forward to working with Mrs Fleming in making Mount Maunganui a year-round destination.

Former Mount Mainstreet manager, Te Puke-born Peter Melgren, 59, passed away in March after a heart attack.
