A karakia and sod turning marked the beginning of the construction of the Pilot Bay boardwalk this morning.
About 20 people, including Mayor Stuart Crosby, city councillors, Port of Tauranga representatives and local iwi gathered at Salisbury Wharf at 8am.
A karakia was read, two waiata were sung and the Mayor gave a speech before turning the first sod.
