Two fire trucks and a fire water tanker battled a shelterbelt fire stretching about 100m in Maketu last night.
Te Puke chief fire officer Glenn Williams said the fire was difficult to get to as it was started from a fire pit which had burnt up onto the hedge.
The Maketu fire truck and Te Puke tanker were called to the fire about 6pm before a second fire truck form Te Puke was called about 6.30pm, he said.
Ither fire fighters from Te Puke were called to a house fire in Paengaroa at a similar time, he said.
