Greerton firefighters were in the right place at the right time when they heard the Greerton Village School fire alarm yesterday.
Firefighters were nearby at 6.50pm when they heard a fire alarm and stopped to check on it. After investigating the complex the alarm was found to be false.
An hour later the Mount Maunganui Fire service was called to a home in Oceanbeach Rd after burnt cooking set off a monitored fire alarm.
In Welcome Bay, real estate signs were set on fire late last night.
The Greerton fire brigade were called to put out some of the three signs that were lit on Victory St at 10.55pm.
One of the signs had melted on to a letterbox. The home's owner managed to put this fire out with a garden hose before the brigade arrived.
Police are investigating.
