Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh said the power cut happened at 11.40pm, but supply was fully restored at 5.15am. He said many power cuts could be avoided if tree owners kept their trees trimmed well clear of Powerco's networks.
Police dealt with at least two crashes yesterday in the wet weather, including one where a driver spun out on Oropi Rd.
No one was injured in either crash.
Head of Western Bay of Plenty road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said he hoped people would consider the weather conditions when travelling for Christmas over the next week.
"Realistically if people are thinking of travelling a long distance and are able to put that trip off, that would be my advice just with those weather conditions.
"Drivers can expect some surface flooding and there may be debris on roads. If people do have to drive, make sure they are travelling at respectable following distances and speed."
Today, light rain was forcasted for the morning with a few fine spells throughout the day, Met Service meteorologist Nicole Ranger said.
The weather should clear up for the rest of the week with Friday being the best day, she said.
Temperatures are expected to rise back into the 20s and on Friday there would be a high of about 26C.
