If you've been driving along Maunganui Road recently and wondered what all the temporary fencing on the Omanu Golf Course is for,it's part of the first stage of the Baypark to Bayfair Link upgrade.
New ZealandTransport Agency's Bay of Plenty highway manager Niclas Johansson says the temporary screens protect both golfers and construction workers as workers clear a site in preparation for relocation ofthe railway line.
"The driving range will be unaffected by the works, however there are minor impacts to the 13th hole ofthe golf course."
Niclas says the new railway line is expected to be relocated by late this year and people can expect to see lots of action before then.
"The earthworks, drainage, service relocations, noise and retaining wall construction that are under way are the first stage of the railway relocation. Once this work is completed KiwiRail will oversee the next part, constructing the foundation for the track (ballast), laying new track and installing signals."
