Explosions were heard during an armed raid at a rural property in Whakamarama, yesterday.
Police cordoned off Barrett Rd leading into Whakamarama Rd about 7am on Thursday while the Armed Offenders Squad assisted police in the raid at a property near the Whakamarama Superette.
Detective Sergeant Craig Rawlinson said the superette was not the target of the
search warrant and had no involvement in the raid.
Several loud explosions were heard about 9.15am.
"They were what is often termed 'flash bangs' - distraction devices used
by police, while gaining entry to properties," Mr Rawlinson said.
