Everything is running smoothly at Tauranga Hospital this morning after junior doctors went on strike from 7am today.
"The contingency planning has gone well and everything is running smoothly so far,'' said Bay of Plenty District Health Board medical director Dr Hugh Lees.
The strike action followed failed talks with district health boards over work hours and days.
Junior doctors will be on strike until 7am on Thursday with cover provided by junior doctors who are not members of the Resident Doctors' Association and senior doctors. Around 100 junior doctors are on strike in Tauranga.
