The Bay of Plenty Times editorialised strongly on the Kronic problem in the Bay of Plenty Times Weekend and called on Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne to ban synthetic cannabis products.
Our stance and coverage of the issue came amid calls for a ban and after it was discovered some of the brand's synthetic cannabis was laced with prescription medicine.
Pineapple Express, one of the products in the Kronic range, was last week found to contain phenazepam, an anti-anxiety and anti-convulsion drug.
Now, a second type of synthetic cannabis is in the spotlight. Cosmic Corner's Juicy Puff Super Strength has also been found to contain phenazepam.
It is reported on today that leading figures in the synthetic cannabis industry are to meet today to discuss ways of reining in their own behaviour to avoid a ban on their products.
A ban is exactly what is needed.
