It's amazing how far dedication and perseverance can get you.
If you do your best and don't give up you can achieve most goals. You don't always think about this when you are at school or university but at some point in your life you realise what you need todo to get you where you want to be.
Sadly, some people don't realise this until later in life.
But then there's people like Abby Mattock, who featured in yesterday's Bay of Plenty Times.
The 23-year-old finished her fifth and final year of study at Massey University last year and on Saturday, was lucky enough to have some of her pieces showcased at a fashion event in Auckland.
Miss Mattock went for an interview in Auckland with designer Vicki Taylor, who told Miss Mattock she did not have a job for her but loved her scarves and asked for three to be used in her upcoming fashion show.
Miss Mattock already had two scarves made but had to quickly take to her knitting needles to whip up a third and send it away for the show, held on Saturday.
As well as having her pieces shown on the runway, Miss Mattock was given VIP seats to the show.
She is now planning on doing a series of internships with Vicki Taylor and hoped to get a job in the fashion industry.
I can imagine finding a job in the fashion industry would be hard, but finding a job in any industry can sometimes be a struggle.
It's sad when you see people desperate for a job when there are no positions available.
It's even worse when you know there are people working who don't give it their all.
Maybe we need to take a leaf out of Miss Mattock's book and persevere until we reach the end goal, whether it is in our personal or professional lives.
