Twice a year police release crime statistics, indicating whether reported crime in each policing district has gone up or down.
The latest figures were released on Wednesday and showed that reported crime in the Western Bay of Plenty dropped nearly 11 per cent in the last financial year.
This included a 26.4 per cent reduction in burglary and 10.8 per cent in theft.
Other areas of improvement included robbery and extortion, and property damage.
However, a 200 per cent rise in homicide from one offence in the year to June 2013, to three in the last year was "of concern", police said.
