Bay of Plenty-based Kiwifruit post-harvest operator EastPack has appointed John Loughlin as its interim chief executive while the board continues the recruitment process to replace incumbent leader Tony Hawken.
EastPack had previously announced that Mr Hawken would step down from his current role at the end of the year, but would continue with the company to lead some important projects and to provide continuity.
"John brings strong leadership in complex businesses and a deep knowledge of our kiwifruit industry," said Mr Sharp. "We're lucky to be able to have a person of John's experience, skill and enthusiasm for our company and the industry."
Mr Loughlin is currently an independent director of EastPack and is a former director and former chairman of Zespri. He is also a former chief executive of meat company Richmond, and had previously acted as interim chief financial officer of Tranz-Rail, said EastPack chairman Ray Sharp.
Mr Sharp said he was confident the combination of the company's leadership team, the ongoing contribution from Mr Hawken and the new leadership of Mr Loughlin would set up a strong performance in the 2015 season.
