The driver of a car that collided with a power pole in Mount Maunganui last night had an alcohol reading of 550 micrograms, more than twice over the legal limit of 250 micrograms, police say.
Western Bay of Plenty Highway Patrol Sergeant Mike Owen said the driver was tested by police and found to have an alcohol reading of 550 micrograms.
Mr Owen said police alleged speed and alcohol were both factors in the crash.
