A $100,000 donation towards the installation of statues of Hairy Maclary and his eight bronze friends on the Tauranga waterfront was handed over yesterday.
City Care general manager of national maintenance Tim Gibson (pictured) presented the cheque to Creative Tauranga and got up close to the sculpture of Bottomley Potts which was shipped up from Wellington for the occasion.
Creative Tauranga chief executive Tracey Rudduck-Gudsell hoped the donation would allow them to get the $700,000 sculptures installed by Easter.
Another $221,000 now needed to be raised to cover the cost of the statues and installation.
The sculptures, created by foundryman Jonathan Campbell, mouldmaker Marco Wuest and sculptor Brigitte Wuest, took just over a year to make.
