The cyclist who died after a crash in Te Puke on Tuesday was Dennis Malcolm Hills of Pāpāmoa.

Hills was 66, the police said in a statement today.

The crash happened on the Te Puke Highway about 4.50am. The investigation was continuing, police said.

Hills worked for Pukepine Sawmills for more than 30 years and was remembered by his boss as a highly respected member of the team who always cycled to work.

Police have asked for any witnesses or anyone who can help with the investigation to contact Tauranga police on 07 577 4300.
