The Baker Cup (WBOPCA Challenge Trophy) changed hands at Pemberton Park on Saturday in an action-packed match where more than 400 runs were scored and 18 wickets fell.
Baker Cup holders Eves Realty Greerton batted first against New World Te Puke and posted 219/9. Josh Bates, batting at six, top scored with 32, skipper Shane Wineti posted a solid 30, while keeper Kent Hodder chipped in with a handy 25 runs. Brody Gilroy, who made his Bay of Plenty representative debut in Gisborne last weekend, was the best of the Te Puke bowling attack taking four wickets.
Te Puke got away to a flyer reaching 100 for the loss of just two wickets. Tai Bridgman-Raison top scored with 44 runs. Greerton bowlers fought back with the visitors requiring 15 runs in the last four overs with just one wicket in hand. The Te Puke victory came with four balls to spare in the last over, with the Baker Cup heading for the Te Puke trophy cabinet.
Element IMF Cadets batsmen Morton Freer smashed his maiden premier century of 101 against Bayleys Central at the Tauranga Domain. Cadets reached 250/6 with Northern Knights Jono Boult scoring a solid half century. Graeme Whiles was the best of the Rotorua side's bowlers, taking three wickets.
Freer then grabbed three Central wickets at a cost of just nine runs, as the Rotorua team were dismissed for 111 to give Cadets a big 139-run victory.
