Police are looking for the occupants of a vehicle which crashed in Tauranga this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to reports of a crash on Cambridge Rd at 4.45pm which damaged a street light.

A police media spokeswoman said officers arrived at the crash scene but the occupants were missing.

It is understood the driver got a lift away from the scene while the other person left on foot, she said.

The crash was not blocking the road but the council was advised regarding the street light.
