Bay councils are working together to provide free microchipping, muzzles, registration and neutering for menacing dogs.
Over the past two years there have been 214 dog attacks in the wider Western Bay.
Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council were joining forces to reduce the risk of dog attacks in the region.
The offer for free services would run until June 30 and applied to dogs that have or could be classified as menacing under the Dog Control Act 1996 due to their breed, type of behaviour.
The amnesty period would give owners the chance to come forward without repercussion and take advantage of the free offer - worth up to $350 - before it became law.
