Tip Top have confirmed what many in the Western Bay of Plenty already know - Copenhagen Cones in Mount Maunganui is one of New Zealand's most popular icecream providers.
So popular in fact, the Adams Ave store have had to "unlist" their phone number to stop the calls from icecream fans constantly enquiring about flavours and opening hours.
"There is no way we can have our number listed," Copenhagen Cones store manager Nicolette Joubert said.
"We would have people ring all the time, you pretty much have to man the phone full-time."
Copenhagen Cones rolled a colossal 101,280 scoops of icecream over the last year, making it one of the country's top 10 places to get the best scoop.
An annual Tip Top Scoop Index, released yesterday, showed how much ice cream was eaten in each region. It pinpointed dairies, parlours and food stores and showed what flavours were the most popular (vanilla by the way).
Copenhagen Cones was eighth out of all scoop icecream providers in New Zealand.
Queues trailing down the road from the store are a regular feature outside the store and this weekend is expected to see them return.
"Labour Weekend is always busy because it's the first big weekend before summer," Ms Joubert said.
"We carry 18 flavours so our customers always get their favourite and we make sure our scoops are large."
Every Tip Top ice cream brought over Labour Weekend will go into the draw to win a year's supply of their favourite icecream.
Regionally, the Bay of Plenty scooped third place on the index.
The Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough region was first, with local residents eating 5.76 scoops per person. The Taranaki, Manawatu and Whanganui region were second with a combined total of 5.45 scoops per person.
Tip Top's newest scoop flavours to join the ranks this summer and available this Labour weekend are Vanilla Citrus Sorbet & Chocolate Coconut Ripple.
