Police say anyone who finds themselves in a robbery situation should comply with the offender's demands and not get into any physical confrontation.
Area Prevention Manager Inspector Karl Wright-St Clair said the ''risks just aren't worth it''.
He said victims should try to remember key details such as the physical appearance of the offenders as well as their clothing and, where appropriate, vehicle or registration numbers.
''Ring 111 as soon as it is safe to do so and police will respond as appropriate.''
Police regularly work with retailers, large and small, and provide advice and support to help improve security and make their premises less attractive for thieves, he said.
Police districts also conduct operations, as appropriate, targeting this criminal activity.
