Two media studies students unwittingly sparked an armed police callout yesterday after filming each other with plastic guns for a production they were working on.
Tauranga Boys' College went into lockdown about 2.45pm after a member of the public phoned police to report seeing two people with guns near the school property.
Principal Robert Mangan said it emerged the two were students filming a media production on heroes and they were using two plastic guns, one yellow and one black.
The students were filming near Mayfield House, on the corner of 15th Ave and Cameron Rd, when the school went into lockdown.
"The kids did not know they were the cause of the lockdown. They were on the field with another class when the lockdown occurred. They returned off the field and into their classroom like all the other boys," he said.
