It seems the blue skies and sunshine might be going on holiday this festive season.
MetService meteorologist Ciaran Doolin said a combination of fine spells and the odd shower were forecast for Christmas Day and Boxing Day in the Bay of Plenty.
"A ridge of high pressure extends over the North Island on Christmas Day. This is then displaced by a front which moves over the region during Tuesday afternoon and evening," Doolin said.
Christmas Day had fine spells in store with isolated showers possible and northerly winds.
Boxing Day also had fine spells forecast with showers developing in the afternoon and into the evening.
