A short film about a new fad has seen a group of mates from Mount Maunganui named 2011 grand national champions in the V48 Hours Furious Film-making challenge.
Former Mount Maunganui College student Tom Furniss moved to Auckland in January but teamed up with local lads Cam Neat, Tim Armstrong and Daniel Wrinch for an entry in the competition.
Together, with Auckland friends, they formed team Grand Cheval. Furniss, 23, said the name was one he and Neat had called themselves since they were 15 years' old at Mount Maunganui College.
There were more than 800 films made in this year's competition with many of the 10,000 participants including already established actors, writers and directors.
Each team was assigned a theme and Grand Cheval's task was to theme their film around a fad, so they created one.
They shot The Child Jumpers in a mockumentary style film about a group of guys who run around suburban areas jumping over children.
The team won $60,000 in cash, cameras and a TV at the weekend.
More can be seen on www.v48hours.co.nz and The Best Of The Fest is screening on TVNZ U each night this week at 10.
