Tauranga City Council is urging people using the Mauao base track today to exercise caution as big swells are causing waves to wash over sections of the track.
The council especially asks those with children to be extra vigilant.
High tide is due to hit around lunchtime today.
The track was still open to the public in the morning, and council staff were monitoring the situation until after high tide.
