UPDATE 9.30am: A person has been freed from their car after hitting a power pole about 8.45am.

Fire communications shift manager Jarron Philips said the live power lines were over the car after the crash so the driver had to wait for power authorities to arrive to isolate the power and free them.

Fire fighters were still at the secen.


EARLIER: A car has hit a power pole near Katikati this morning.

Power is out to Katikati, Athenree, Kauri Point, Tahawai and Tanners Point.

Police Inspector Tony Miller said a car had hit a pole near Tuapiro Rd, on the northern side of Katikati,

Police and fire fighters were on their way.
