Contractors which burst a gas pipe in Te Puke prompted the closure of a street today.
Te Puke volunteer firefighters were called to Oxford St at 9.30am and prompted closed the road off while waiting on gas authorities to rectify the problem.
Te Puke fire service station officer Keith Merritt said "a contractor was looking for a water pipe I think and put a prodder through the gas line".
Traffic was diverted away from the street for about an hour.
