Bureta residents Sally and Peter Green are looking forward to welcoming the new grocery store.

Any reservations about the new Countdown soon to open in Bureta have been left at the door today.

Locals are getting a tour of the new supermarket today as staff work to fill the shelves before it officially opens on November 4.

Bureta residents Sally and Peter Green were taking a look around at what will be their new local grocery store.

Without a car, Sally was having to drive her mobility scooter all the way to Brookfield to do her groceries so was looking forward to the new store opening near their house.

They had always supported the idea but understood a lot of people were upset to lose the existing Bureta Park restaurant from the location.

"We were quite happy to have one down here.

"We also spoke to a lot of people who were against it who don't mind it now."

Store manager James Liddell said he had heard about the backlash when it was first announced but was happy with the response today.

"All of them have been quite impressed."

He said it had created a large number of jobs for people as well, with more than 58 new employees hired for the store above the total of existing employees.
