A boat that appears to be stuck on a sand bar at the entrance of the Kaituna River is the subject of rescue operation this afternoon.
Fire Service spokesman Jarron Phillips said the Maketu volunteer fire brigade have responded to a call about 1.20pm.
A person watching from shore has reported a 26-foot fishing boat stuck on the sand bar.
Mr Phillips said it they did not know if the vessel was taking on water but the Maketu fire rescue boat was heading to the boat to ensure its safety.
