Three people have been rescued after two boats collided in Mt Maunganui, according to police.

Police were called to Salisbury Ave this evening.

A police spokeswoman said there were reports that two boats had collided.

She said Coastguard went out and picked up three people.

A Coastguard spokesman confirmed a rescue vessel was on the scene at the entrance to Tauranga Harbour.

He said they were alerted to an incident about 8.45pm but could not give any details.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said they were called to the scene but later turned away because no one was injured.
