Papamoa firefighters spent more than 30 minutes putting out a stolen 4WD which had been set alight in Welcome Bay overnight.
The brigade were called to the blazing vehicle on Welcome Bay Rd at 2.16am and it was ''well and truly going'' when they arrived, fire chief Allan Bicker said.
The Nissan 4WD was extensively damaged from the fire.
The brigade reported the matter to police, who believed it had been stolen from a Tauranga resident earlier in the night, Mr Bicker said.
