Bay Venues Limited attracted a record number of participants in its learn to swim and aquatic programmes and exceeded its visitor number, events and ASB Arena visit goals last financial year.
Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby said the organisation surpassed many of the performance targets set out in the Statement of Intent in what had been an excellent year for the organisation.
"This is only BVL's second full year in operation and since 2013 the organisation has increased its revenue growth, maintained costs and improved its operating surplus from a $1.1m deficit last year to a $132K surplus this year - a really positive result.
"BVL also achieved excellent levels of customer satisfaction across all facilities, demonstrating the board's commitment to providing first-class experiences and outcomes for our community."
The council controlled organisation exceeded its performance targets in visitor numbers (1,696,700 against a target of 1,546,089); ASB Arena visits (290,700 against a target of 250,000); learn to swim and aquatic programme enrolments (5,400 against a target of 4,778); and the number of students attending these programmes during term time (34,360 against a target of 30,257).
