The number of people reading the Bay of Plenty Times has increased by 8000 compared with a year ago, new figures show.
The newspaper's average issue readership for readers aged 15 and over is now 35,000 (July 2019 to June 2020 period), which is also up 4000 versus the previous survey period (April 2019 – March 2020), according to latest Nielsen readership survey figures.
Sister newspaper the Rotorua Daily Post's average issue readership has also increased 110 per cent. The Post's readership is now 21,000 - up 11,000 readers versus the previous period and up 4000 from a year ago. Scott Inglis, Bay of Plenty regional editor for publisher NZME, said the growth in readership across both newspapers was outstanding.
''These figures show that both newspapers are providing high-quality content and news and views people can trust - especially in these difficult times,'' Inglis said.
''The importance of traditional, trustworthy media has become even more important during the pandemic. Readers know they can trust us.''
