Bay of Plenty fire fighters will run from Bluff, in the South Island, to the base of the Sky Tower in Auckland next moth to raise funds and awareness for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC).
South2Sky will see the firefighters cover 1,807 kilometres over 12 days and the relay is opening up the opportunity for likeminded people to get involved and help raise funds and awareness for LBC.
Each runner will be running up to 20 kilometres per day with their route being primarily SH1 in the South Island and SH2, 50 and 5 in the North Island.
The firefighters will also compete in Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand's Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge on May 23, climbing the 51 floors of the Sky Tower in 25 kilograms of firefighter kit.
Approximately 10,000 people in New Zealand are living with a blood cancer or a related condition. Six New Zealand children and adults are diagnosed each day with a blood cancer like leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
