CREATE A VIBE THAMES
Create the Vibe is the name given to a Thames project to enliven the heart of town. The intersection of Pollen and Mary streets has received 90 per cent funding of $320,125 from Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency for work with the remainder from Thames Community Board budgets. TOO MUCH INFORMATION OPOUTERE
The Opoutere Residents and Ratepayers Association has suggested a new approach to signage to highlight dotterel protection on the beach, complaining of visual clutter from too many signs presenting too much information.
COOKBOOK A WINNER
Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) has won two awards in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for its The Mighty Waikato Cookbook, which it created during Covid-19 lockdown to raise money to help put food on the table for the region's most vulnerable. The Mighty Cookbook won in the Food Books Fighting Covid and Sustainable Books ctegories and will compete for "Best in the World" at a ceremony in 2021.
CCTV FOR TAIRUA
A Tairua resident involved with the local night patrol group asked the board for support to install a CCTV security system around the town, monitored by Tairua Police Station. A poll conducted through a Tairua community Facebook page found significant community support for the camera, with 417 of 458 "votes" in favour of its installation. The request was supported by Constable Dylan Curtin from the Tairua police station.
